On January 19, AMI took part in a significant milestone for Argentina’s automotive and logistics industries: the handling of the “BYD Changzhou” vessel at the Port of Zárate, marking the first call in Argentina by a BYD vehicle carrier.

The vessel arrived from the Port of Ningbo carrying 5,841 vehicles across four BYD models, which were discharged at the Port of Zárate. The import of these hybrid and electric vehicles is carried out under Argentina’s current quota regime for the importation of low-emission vehicles, which provides for preferential tariffs aimed at promoting the adoption of these types of vehicles in the local market.

The operation involved contributions from several areas of the company. The Campana branch played a key role in planning and executing the operation, while the AMI Tramps team provided significant support through stakeholder engagement, contributing to the development of a competitive offer.

AMI’s extensive experience in handling Car Carrier vessels also played a particularly important role. This included sharing information on local operations, procedures implemented for other principals, and reinforcing the “Safety First” principle as a central pillar of all our operations.
